While their rivals continue to build new stadiums or increase the capacity of their current ones, Chelsea remain at the Bridge.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It has emerged this week that the three co-owners led by Todd Boehly are looking to share their stake of around 38% in <a href=\"http:\/\/thechelseachronicle.com\/club\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Chelsea<\/a>. It is believed that Walter and Boehly are looking to sell, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechelseachronicle.com\/news\/who-is-mark-walter-the-chelsea-shareholder-looking-to-sell-his-12-7-stake-to-clearlake\/\">Walter cashing in on his assets<\/a>. Hansjorg Wyss owns the other 12.7%.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechelseachronicle.com\/news\/mark-walter-might-actually-go-to-jail-as-chelsea-co-owner-slapped-with-7-6-billion-bill\/\">The American is under investigation<\/a> across the pond for certain payments made, and is looking to cash in on some of his assets to pay off loans to insurance companies. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechelseachronicle.com\/news\/mark-walters-desperate-plan-to-generate-funds-after-already-deciding-to-sell-chelsea-stake\/\">Last week, he sold the Los Angeles Lakers.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-chelsea-make-a-profit-without-investing-in-a-new-stadium\">Can Chelsea make a profit without investing in a new stadium?<\/h2>\n<p>With Boehly, Wyss and Walter looking to sell their stake, Chelsea will be solely owned by Clearlake. Eghbali will be calling the shots, and one big decision he has to make is a new stadium at Chelsea.<\/p>\n<p>Tottenham have built a new one, Leeds are increasing their capacity, Liverpool already have done. Chelsea\u2019s former head of global commercial activities, Christian Purslow, does not see a new stadium by 2031.<\/p>\n<p>Discussing Chelsea\u2019s ownership on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ur1tqM6L42I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Football Boardroom<\/a> podcast alongside journalist Henry Winter, former Liverpool and Villa chief Purslow was asked by Winter: \u201cDo you think it will be built?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He replied: \u201cCertainly not. I can\u2019t see Chelsea playing anywhere else in the next five years. If you take the timeline that they\u2019re [Clearlake] already here for four years, and I can\u2019t see a stadium in the next five.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen they will be here for nine years, still at Stamford Bridge. My analysis is, as a deal, they will not have succeeded in implementing a key plank of the growth thesis which is a change of stadium,\u201d Purslow said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich is where they hoped they would be when they bought the club in 2022. By the way, Roman Abramovich owned the club for 18 years. It\u2019s not an intractable problem, but it\u2019s not far off it. So far, it has defeated Boehly and Eghbali. Do I think Clearlake make a profit on the original investment and exit in the near future?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes I do. Getting Chelsea back on track in footballing terms will do that. Chelsea performing well will allow them to argue it\u2019s worth \u00a35bn or \u00a36bn. It\u2019s more important than doubling the stadium capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-much-is-chelsea-worth-right-now-according-to-forbes\">How much is Chelsea worth right now, according to Forbes?<\/h2>\n<p>The consortium led by Boehly bought Chelsea for a fee of \u00a32.5bn from Roman Abramovich back in 2022. The Reds have a bigger stadium but ultimately, there is plenty to compare between the Reds and Chelsea at the moment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/justinteitelbaum\/2026\/05\/29\/the-worlds-most-valuable-soccer-teams-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Forbes<\/a> published an article in May, valuing Chelsea at around $4.2bn [\u00a33.1bn]. If Chelsea can get back in the Champions League, that valuation will increase. Without the stadium, success on the pitch is crucial.<\/p>\n<p>If Wyss, Boehly and Walter sold their stake at the current valuation, they would win a small profit \u2013 in the grand scheme of things \u2013 based on their initial stake.
