A niche financial rule in UEFA regulations could provide a hurdle for Chelsea\u2019s Nicolas Jackson transfer negotiations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chelsea<\/a> have already done plenty of business with Aston Villa this summer, including the club-record \u00a3117m signing of Morgan Rogers<\/a>. In the opposite direction, Alejandro Garnacho joined Villa<\/a> on loan and could make a permanent move to Villa Park next summer.<\/p>\n

But the two clubs could yet meet at the negotiating table again. With Ollie Watkins subject to Saudi interest<\/a>, it is no secret that Unai Emery wants to reunite with Nicolas Jackson<\/a>, and the Blues are open to selling the 25-year-old striker.<\/p>\n

Chelsea want \u00a365m for Jackson<\/a>, and Villa remain his \u201cmost viable option\u201d according to BBC Sport<\/a>. Frustratingly, though, a UEFA rule could end up creating a problem.<\/p>\n

Why UEFA is a problem for Chelsea\u2019s Nicolas Jackson sale<\/h2>\n

With Chelsea not competing in UEFA tournaments this season, the Blues only have to comply with Premier League regulations. But Villa\u2019s participation in the Champions League means they must follow the European SCR rules.<\/p>\n

As explained by Dharmesh Sheth on Sky Sports<\/a>, there is a \u201c45-day trade rule\u201d in the UEFA regulations that applies to Chelsea and Jackson.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf a deal happens within 45 days of each other between two clubs, permanent deals, UEFA would deem that to be a swap deal.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Chelsea Chronicle<\/strong> have spoken exclusively to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, who explains why Villa will be reluctant to sign Jackson.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the UEFA SCR rules, the 45-day rule does have an impact. It doesn\u2019t in the Premier League; it\u2019s not treated in the same way for Premier League purposes,\u201d<\/em> Maguire said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think from Aston Villa\u2019s point of view, they would rather not have a swap with another club because they do need to book some profits for their UEFA SCR compliance.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Rogers to Chelsea deal delivers well over \u00a3100 million worth of profit, which is certainly going to help them.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIf they take Jackson in the other direction, it\u2019s going to substantially reduce and effectively wipe out that profit, which could make it more difficult for them to comply with the negotiated arrangement that they have with UEFA.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n

Aston Villa\u2019s UEFA agreement could stop Nicolas Jackson deal<\/h2>\n

So because Chelsea have traded with Aston Villa in the last 45 days, any transfer deal for Jackson would go down in UEFA\u2019s books as a \u2018trade deal\u2019, wiping away Villa\u2019s profits from Rogers.<\/p>\n

As pointed out by Maguire, Aston Villa have already been fined \u00a319.4m by UEFA for breaching their SCR regulations in 2025.<\/p>\n

As part of their agreement with UEFA, Villa have to \u201csignificantly decrease their squad-cost ratio in 2026\u201d.<\/p>\n

Essentially, Villa are already on thin ice with UEFA, and a deal for Jackson would only harm their financial standing under the European rules.<\/p>\n

Thankfully for Chelsea, there is also interest in Jackson from Atletico Madrid, and it seems the Blues may have to explore that avenue as Villa could walk away from the deal.<\/p>\n
