Danny Welbeck\u2019s move to Chelsea is one of the surprises of the summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Blues<\/a> recently announced the striker\u2019s arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion, with Xabi Alonso<\/a> looking to add more experience to his squad.<\/p>\n

Jordan Henderson is now expected to join Welbeck<\/a> at Stamford Bridge<\/a>, which will give Alonso another seasoned pro he can call upon in the new season.<\/p>\n

Henderson is set to sign for Chelsea on a free transfer after Brentford agreed to release the midfielder from his contract. As for Welbeck, Chelsea also got a very good deal for him.<\/p>\n

According to the Daily Mail<\/a>, Welbeck cost his new employers \u201cnext to nothing\u201d. The striker is 35 now, but bringing him in for a nominal fee is still great business.<\/p>\n

Welbeck has a lot to offer both on the pitch and in the dressing room. Last season, the former England international scored 13 goals in 37 Premier League<\/a> appearances. That is more than what Cole Palmer managed and only two fewer than Joao Pedro.<\/p>\n

In his first interview as a Chelsea player, Welbeck spoke about helping young players<\/a> and his eagerness to do that after amassing plenty of experience in the game.<\/p>\n

Looking at his goal record from the previous campaign, Welbeck is clearly still capable of making a huge impact at this level. Chelsea are well aware of that after conceding three goals against the ex-Brighton striker last term.<\/p>\n

However, he will have to play second fiddle to Pedro, who was in stunning form during the 2025\/26 season and remains the team\u2019s first-choice centre-forward. The Brazilian has also impressed in Chelsea\u2019s pre-season tour, scoring a hat-trick against Western Sydney Wanderers.<\/p>\n

All in all, Chelsea can be pleased with their purchase of Welbeck. He has not cost them much and should make a difference for them both on the pitch and behind the scenes.<\/p>\n
