Emi Martinez was announced as a new Chelsea player on Sunday morning, and yet he started for the Blues against Brighton in what was a bit of a surprise \u2013 and John Terry is delighted.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chelsea agreed a \u00a37.5m move for Martinez<\/a> on Friday, but it was believed the Blues would not be able to register him in time to play on the weekend. Obviously, that is not the case \u2013 he has started on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Speaking in his first interview as a Chelsea player, Martinez shared how he had spoken to both Petr Cech and Terry<\/a>. He worked under Cech at Arsenal, and then with Terry at Aston Villa during his earlier years.<\/p>\n

Now, Terry has taken to TikTok<\/a> to share his delight at the signing of \u201cworld-class\u201d Martinez. He claims if he could sign any goalkeeper, Martinez would be up there and joked he has given Martinez the 26 shirt.<\/p>\n

Emi Martinez coming in the building, I think he has to be the signing of the summer. What a world-class goalkeeper he is. If I had any choice who I would sign in terms of a goalkeeper, he\u2019d be right at the top.<\/p>\n

We signed him at Aston Villa from Arsenal, and he was unbelievable \u2013 the confidence he showed, the way he trains, the influence he had over the group of players, the mindset; he wants to win day in, day out.<\/p>\n

Hates conceding goals in training, loves keeping clean sheets. Everything, trust me, top. Excited to have him, great with his feet, great shot-stopper, but the thing I love the most is how he commands the box.<\/p>\n

Takes the ball at the highest points and takes pressure off his defenders. He\u2019s a really good signing. I actually spoke to him because I don\u2019t know if anyone knows, but he\u2019s taking the no.26 shirt,\u201d Terry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, we have given the green light; he\u2019s taking the 26 shirt, and do you know why? Because he loves keeping clean sheets as much as I did when I wore that shirt. Hopefully it serves him well. I am delighted.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, however, if Chelsea entered the season with the squad they have then Alonso will be delighted. His side have added huge bouts of experience and some ready-man top tier quality, largely due to him.<\/p>\n
