The feeling among football fans is that Chelsea did really well after selling Liam Delap to Nottingham Forest for \u00a350m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chelsea<\/a> signed Delap<\/a> from Ipswich Town for \u00a330m last summer, and the striker went on to score just two goals in 41 appearances for the Blues last season.<\/p>\n

In the end, Chelsea made a profit from Delap\u2019s sale after offloading him for \u00a350m. However, there is a belief at the club that they may have actually had a centre-forward who was worth even more than that.<\/p>\n

Chelsea think Liam Delap\u2019s true value was \u00a370m<\/h2>\n

Chelsea were able to sign Delap for \u00a330m thanks to a release clause in his contract that became active following Ipswich\u2019s relegation at the end of the 2024\/25 season.<\/p>\n

According to The Telegraph<\/a>, though, Chelsea believe his value would have been nearer to \u00a370m had the Englishman not had that release clause in his contract.<\/p>\n

As a result, they feel that Forest have actually been given a 30% \u201cdiscount\u201d, which many would dispute.<\/p>\n

Even if Delap was worth \u00a370m at one stage, his value would have dipped after last season. Again, he only scored twice, finishing the campaign with just one goal in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Based on that, Chelsea would have been fortunate to get all their money back, let alone a \u00a350m fee. <\/p>\n

Liam Delap is a \u00a340m striker at most<\/h2>\n

Chelsea, Ipswich or any other club believing that Delap was worth \u00a370m is madness. Yes, he impressed during the 2024\/25 season, and had Ipswich not been relegated, perhaps they would have slapped a \u00a370m price tag on Delap to deter suitors. But he is not and has never been worth that.<\/p>\n

Call it \u201cEnglish tax\u201d or whatever, but Delap was not worth \u00a370m then and is certainly not worth that now after a one-goal season in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

At most, Chelsea and Forest should not have spent more than \u00a340m on Delap. The Blues did not have to in the end, but Forest have and now need the 22-year-old to deliver. He is a huge investment for them.<\/p>\n
