Following the collapse of Lamine Camara\u2019s transfer on deadline day, Chelsea failed to secure a replacement for Enzo Fernandez.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chelsea were on the verge of signing Camara<\/a> from AS Monaco until the French club decided to pull the plug on the deal at the very last minute.<\/p>\n

Camara would have been an important player for the Blues<\/a>, especially now with Moises Caicedo injured. He has a very similar profile to the Ecuadorian.<\/p>\n

However, Chelsea had an opportunity to make an even better signing than Camara, one with a profile much closer to Fernandez\u2019s<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bruno Guimaraes was the ideal replacement for Enzo Fernandez<\/h2>\n

All things considered, Bruno Guimaraes<\/a> would have been the perfect successor to Fernandez at Stamford Bridge and reminded the club of that fact on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Guimaraes came off the bench for Arsenal to score a magnificent goal against Sunderland.<\/p>\n

It was such a clutch moment, and if Arsenal go on to win the Premier League title again by a small margin, supporters will look back at that strike. It was 0-0 when Guimaraes came on and Sunderland just missed a penalty.<\/p>\n

Fernandez often produced clutch moments like that for Chelsea. When you look at Chelsea\u2019s midfield now, there is not really anyone who is capable of doing that.<\/p>\n

That is not the biggest issue with Chelsea\u2019s midfield right now, though. The Blues\u2019 current midfielders are struggling to control games, while Xabi Alonso<\/a> is lacking options because of injuries to Caicedo and Jordan Henderson. The latter would not have been a starter anyway.<\/p>\n

The frustrating thing is that Chelsea reportedly did have some interest in Guimaraes<\/a>, but they spent most of their time chasing Bournemouth\u2019s Alex Scott.<\/p>\n

Guimaraes only cost \u00a375m as well, and you can say only because the likes of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes went for far more and are inferior midfielders.<\/p>\n

You suspect that Scott would have also cost more than Guimaraes had Bournemouth been willing to sell the 23-year-old.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Chelsea would have been much better off pursuing Guimaraes and would be in a much better position than they are in now if they signed him. Their loss is Arsenal\u2019s gain, which was clear to see after Saturday\u2019s round of Premier League fixtures.<\/p>\n
