There is quiet optimism about Chelsea\u2019s chances in the Premier League this season under Xabi Alonso, with journalists divided over how they will do in 2026\/27.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It has been seen as a great coup for the Blues to hire Alonso<\/a> after a 10th-placed finish, as well as making key signings such as Morgan Rogers<\/a> and Maxence Lacroix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And while nine Premier League sides will take part in European football next season, the Blues will not have these extra games to worry about.<\/p>\n

Journalists have their say on Chelsea\u2019s Premier League chances<\/h2>\n

Caleb Sage argued Chelsea<\/a> have a chance of winning the league this year, saying: \u201cChelsea are winning the title. Arsenal, City and Liverpool to make up the rest of the top four. All newly-promoted teams to be relegated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sean Fisher however isn\u2019t seeing the hype around the new manager, saying: \u201cChelsea will implode under Alonso, don\u2019t expect to see them near the top six.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dakir Thanveer stated: \u201cArsenal are still favourites. Going to be Arsenal, Liverpool, City and Chelsea in the top four.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eoin Morris believes it is going to be a longer process though, saying: \u201cI would be very surprised [if Chelsea competed for the title]. The Xabi project is a long-term one. I think he\u2019ll come good but implementing his system is going to take time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chelsea need more signings to compete for the Premier League<\/h2>\n

Chelsea supporters will feel as if there still needs to be some significant transfer business completed before they can be considered title challengers.<\/p>\n

A new midfielder may well become a priority if Enzo Fernandez<\/a> gets his desired move away from the club, with there being questions raised over Chelsea\u2019s depth in that position.<\/p>\n

Alonso started 16-year-old Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli<\/a> alongside Moises Caicedo against Juventus, seemingly not having the faith in Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo.<\/p>\n

The Blues have been linked to Adam Wharton and Alex Scott, although it would rely on a big sale like Enzo Fernandez or Pedro Neto to get the deal done.<\/p>\n
