Jordan Henderson was handed his first start for Chelsea in their 3-0 defeat to Brentford, however believes he is responsible for them conceding the second goal of the evening.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Injuries to Moises Caicedo and Reece James<\/a> left Xabi Alonso limited on options for his midfield in the West London derby, however he decided not to start Romeo Lavia and left him on the bench.<\/p>\n

It was a midfield of Henderson<\/a> and Valentin Barco, both making their first league starts for the club, however their lack of ability to progress the ball quickly proved to be a real issue to their attack.<\/p>\n

A rare moment of the Englishman trying to do this was cut out easily by Brentford, and within 10 seconds they were clean through on goal, allowing Igor Thiago an easy finish on the rebound.<\/p>\n

Henderson approached Morgan Rogers, who the pass was intended for, after conceding and took responsibility for the goal, saying \u201cI shouldn\u2019t have played that pass.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Blues struggled to get their attackers in the game, with Rogers struggling to have an impact<\/a> for the first time since joining the club.<\/p>\n

There is nothing for Chelsea fans to panic about<\/a>, despite having to stew over a damning defeat for three weeks during the international break.<\/p>\n

This will be an opportunity for Caicedo, James, Joao Pedro and Marco Palestra to all return to full fitness. The quadruple likely walk straight back into the starting side.<\/p>\n

It was clear when the signing was made that Henderson was being brought in primarily as a figure of experience, with the intention being he would be only a bit-part player on the pitch.<\/p>\n

However, their failure to get the signing of Lamine Camara over the line, exits of Andrey Santos and Enzo Fernandez and injury woes forced Alonso\u2019s hand last night.<\/p>\n

One thing is for sure though is that Henderson will not be allowing any of his teammates to make excuses, so it is good to see he will hold himself to the same standards.<\/p>\n
