Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso could finally be about to get his hands on Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.

Chelsea spent some of the summer chasing Scott but had no choice but to postpone their pursuit after Bournemouth made it clear that he was not for sale. The Cherries wanted to maintain that stance in January, but they now appear resigned to losing the 23-year-old.

It is thought that Bournemouth are now open to selling Scott this winter in a huge boost to Alonso and Chelsea.

Alex Scott rejects Bournemouth’s latest contract offer

Midfield is a priority for Chelsea, and it looks as though they could soon address that area of the pitch thanks to Scott. Last month, it was reported that Bournemouth were willing to offer Scott a new contract with a release clause to delay his exit until at least the summer.

However, it now appears that he has said no to that and the idea of signing any kind of new deal at the Vitality Stadium. According to TEAMtalk, Scott has turned down Bournemouth’s latest proposal, which is good news for Alonso.

Alex Scott could be available in January! If Chelsea sign him, what impact do you think he’ll make on the midfield?

Chelsea’s midfield situation does not look as dire as it was at the start of the campaign. Moises Caicedo is back, while Jordan Henderson proved that he can still deliver at this level.

Last weekend, he scored a magnificent brace against Scott’s Bournemouth side. Yet it is clear that Alonso could still do with Chelsea bringing in another midfielder at the earliest opportunity.

The Blues never replaced Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia is still a bit of an enigma. When the Belgium international is at the top of his game, he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

But you just never know when Lavia is actually going to be available to play. It is one reason why Chelsea are probably going to push for Scott or another midfielder in January.

A fit Lavia is arguably better than Scott, but how often Chelsea will get to see that version of the former Southampton man remains to be seen.
