Morgan Rogers announced his arrival in style, scoring on his Premier League debut for Chelsea.

Morgan Rogers couldn’t have asked for a much better start to life in a Chelsea shirt, playing a starring role in their 3–2 win at Fulham. Operating alongside Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro in Xabi Alonso’s attack, the 24-year-old caused problems for Fulham’s backline all evening with his movement and skill.

He crowned a sharp 82-minute display by sweeping home Maxence Lacroix’s cross to put Chelsea back in front just before half-time. It was exactly the kind of confident performance needed to start justifying the massive £117 million price tag Chelsea paid Aston Villa for him this summer.

However, it didn’t stop at his goal, as he also set a Chelsea record for his creativity.

Morgan Rogers sets a record for chances created

Morgan Rogers has become the first Chelsea player to create five chances on his Premier League debut for the club on record since 2003-04.

He backed up that playmaking spark with absolute quality across the board, racking up an impressive 0.64 xG across three shots and completing every single one of his dribbles.

Whether taking four touches inside the box, completing two line-breaking passes, or spraying four balls into the final third, he controlled the tempo. And he matched that attacking flair with grit, winning eight of his 11 duels, putting in two tackles, and making five ball recoveries.

Cole Palmer loves playing with Morgan Rogers

Cole Palmer also got his name on the scoresheet against Fulham, netting Chelsea’s third and picking up the Man of the Match award.

It looked like a completely new Palmer after the struggles of last season, and Rogers’ existence appears to be one of the main reasons as to why.

He said: “When you grow up you want to play or do anything with your best friends, so playing football at the best level feels surreal.”
