Chelsea have a theory as to why Alex Scott is easier to sign than Adam Wharton this summer
If Chelsea are going to have to replace Enzo Fernandez this summer, they believe Alex Scott will be an easier signing to make than bringing in Adam Wharton.
Scott and Wharton are both near the top of Chelsea’s list for a new midfielder if Fernandez gets his desired move to Manchester City.
The Blues only want to sell the Argentine if they have a replacement lined up, and the path to sign Scott has somewhat been cleared following Manchester United bringing in Carlos Baleba.

Chelsea think Alex Scott is more attainable than Adam Wharton
Bournemouth’s current public stance is that the Englishman is not for sale at any price, however people inside the game believe a deal may actually be achievable.
Dean Jones has told the Ranks FC podcast that the Premier League side are likely to sell at the right price, and Chelsea think that deal is easier to complete because Scott has a higher desire to leave than Wharton does at Crystal Palace.
He said: “Personally from what I’m hearing, it’s probably Alex Scott that they go for because they think Alex Scott wants to go more than Adam Wharton does. And at the right price, Bournemouth probably do sell.”
Wharton has been priced out of a deal this summer, with Crystal Palace not wanting to part ways with another key star after losing Maxence Lacroix to the Blues.
Chelsea have already had numerous bids rejected for Scott this summer, however their efforts would be far stronger to get the deal done if Fernandez does leave.

Blues supporters have given a mixed response to the Blues midfielder since he returned from the World Cup, however backed him in the face of loud boos from the Craven Cottage crowd on Monday.
So far, Xabi Alonso hasn’t handed Fernandez a start since returning, opting for a midfield pairing of Romeo Lavia and Reece James in the absence of Moises Caicedo.
With less than a week to go of the transfer window, the boss would like for this saga to come to an end soon so he can plan for the rest of the season.
