Thomas Tuchel has done Chelsea a big favour with his England squad announcement
Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers have rightfully been called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, but it is those left out who provide the biggest boost to Chelsea.
Palmer was left out of Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, with many wondering if his creativity would have helped them get over the line against Argentina.
He is off to an excellent start to the 2026/27 season, with Rogers also settling into life at Stamford Bridge brilliantly and justifying his call-up.

Thomas Tuchel has done Chelsea a favour with his England squad
The attackers are the only two Chelsea representatives in the squad, meaning Jordan Henderson, Levi Colwill and Reece James will all remain at Cobham for the three-week international break.
Henderson remains injured following his time at the World Cup, however James and Colwill have been regulars in the Blues squad this season.
The centre-back is coming off the back of a serious knee injury which ruled him out of the majority of the 2025/26 campaign, and it is fair to say he is still looking to rediscover his best form.
Three weeks of no action is the best possible scenario for Colwill, with Chelsea no doubt thankful that their former manager has not rushed him back into the international scene.
What changes are you making to our predicted Chelsea XI to face Brentford? 🤔
This is going to be far from easy…
James meanwhile is an injury doubt for Chelsea’s game with Brentford tonight, and despite a change of position remains a fitness risk if he is played too much.
Tuchel was accused of doing this too often during the World Cup, with him suffering an injury during that competition and only returning to the starting side for the semi-final.
The club captain is clearly now seen as a midfielder by Xabi Alonso, and after the exit of Enzo Fernandez his importance in that position has only increased.
Chelsea need him available for as long as possible, and avoiding the chance at picking up an injury across four Nations League games is a positive for the Blues ahead of the rest of the campaign.
