Chelsea fan and NBA star Josh Hart doesn’t hold back as Man City guilty of £900m ‘sham’

Now, the Premier League have released findings that show City overstated revenue by £855m, and understated expenses by £66m. The findings were branded a “sham” by the investigatory commission.

City’s behaviour has been hugely criticised by those in the footballing world. Not only have they broken rules with no regard for their fellow Premier League clubs, but they have consistently denied doing so.

Chelsea have been found guilty of 74 breaches. But upon BlueCo’s purchase of the club in 2022 from Roman Abramovich, the new owners immediately turned themselves in to the Premier League.

Chelsea helped in the process, and that saw the Blues get away with fines – albeit substantial, the biggest in Premier League history. Todd Boehly organised a discount in his purchase from Abramovich to cover it.

City have not done that. Even now, they continue to express their innocence. Fans are angry, and NBA star Josh Hart is among them: “Man City lied about £900m?! Forget relegation…Burn the club down.”

Ever since City were posed with 115 charges against the club, Enzo Maresca’s side have consistently laughed off the idea that they would be found guilty. The 114 charges against them is groundbreaking.

If City had shown some remorse, some ownership of their mistakes over the nine-year period in which they have been found guilty of these “sham” payments, then perhaps there may be a touch of sympathy.

Hart’s post is certainly over the top, and ultimately, no one wants to see a club cease to exist. But there is an anger at City for the feeling that they are above everyone, and for not taking ownership of their errors.
