Once an €85m attacker, former Chelsea star is now a man with no club and one huge regret
Chelsea have become notorious for letting players go and watching them flourish elsewhere.
The likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah instantly come to mind, while more recently you can say the Blues made a mistake by selling Marc Guehi to Crystal Palace. Guehi has since gone on to develop into one of the best defenders in the Premier League and is now at Manchester City.
Chelsea never owned Jadon Sancho, but he is someone they had to let go after the end of a loan spell, having failed to agree a permanent contract with him. In contrast to De Bruyne and Salah, though, it has all been downhill for Sancho since he left Stamford Bridge.
Sancho had another loan spell last season, this time at Aston Villa, but that was far from successful. In total, the winger made 23 Premier League appearances and failed to score a single goal in any of them. He only made nine top-flight starts in total.
Sancho is now without a club, and according to TEAMtalk, he is willing to wait until January to find a new one after failing to sign for one of his dream teams. It is quite the downfall for an attacker who once cost €85m.
You can have TWO Man City players, who are you picking and why? 👀
Imagine if Man City actually get relegated 😳
Jadon Sancho will regret not remaining at Chelsea
Sancho will now have huge regrets about not staying at Chelsea following the end of the 2024/25 season. Chelsea were set to sign the 26-year-old from Manchester United permanently and just had to agree a contract with the player.
However, Sancho was reportedly unwilling to accept the salary Chelsea were offering, which was thought to be less than what he was earning at the time. In hindsight, it was the wrong decision not to take the pay cut and return to United.
His season at Chelsea was probably his best since he left Borussia Dortmund in 2021. The England international even managed to score in the Conference League final for the Blues.
At Chelsea, Sancho was getting opportunities, playing much better compared to his appearances in a United shirt and was back home in London. It was silly to leave all that behind for money, especially given that a rich club like Chelsea would have given him a good financial package anyway.
