Man City have launched an appeal against the Premier League’s ruling, but if the decision is upheld and the sanctions are damning, the exodus will be enormous, and Chelsea are ready to pounce.

Everyone knows City’s situation. Found guilty on 114 of 115 charges, City are largely accused of inflating payments and misleading auditors to the tune of £900m over nine seasons. Josh Hart was not impressed.

With Everton and Forest getting points deductions for just one breach, City could receive an enormous points deduction and criminal charges against the owners. If that happens, City will have to sell their best.

Chelsea are now being linked with three Man City players

Enzo Maresca will be wondering what he has got himself into, and the same goes for Enzo Fernandez. Even Roy Keane offered some sympathy towards the 2022 World Cup winner, after leaving Chelsea.

Now, the Blues could exact their revenge. If City are forced to sell their best players in the event of a huge points deduction and relegation, it is easy to imagine Chelsea will be in the market for two or three stars.

Which former Chelsea player would you add to the current team, and why? 🤔

You can choose anyone!

Abdukodir Khusanov was linked before City’s charges were revealed, before it was claimed that Erling Haaland would be open to joining the Blues. This weekend, Rayan Cherki has been linked with Chelsea.

France international Cherki was linked with Man City, but Lyon’s proposal of a swap deal that included Andrey Santos forced a potential deal to collapse. Chelsea are lurking as City’s players consider an exit.

The last time Chelsea took advantage of a club in crisis

It is a normal practice that when a big club falls from grace – whether it be financial issues or sanctions being imposed – others will take advantage. Chelsea have done so in the past and could do so with City.

Indeed, Chelsea have done it before. Back in 2013, they signed both Willian and Samuel Eto’o from Russian side Anzhi, after they were plunged into financial difficulty. Then, Atletico Madrid, back in 2014.

The Spanish Supreme Court ruled that Atleti’s building of the now Riyadh Air Metropolitano was actually fraudulent, and to keep the development alive, Atleti needed cash. They raised £48m from Chelsea.

The Spanish side sold Diego Costa for £32m and Filipe Luis for £16m, just a few days apart. Chelsea are ruthless in the transfer window, and if City plummet, trust Chelsea will be there to pick up the scraps.
