Every word of Piers Morgan’s bizarre Cole Palmer rant as Chelsea star branded a ‘baby’
There was plenty of criticism at the start of the international break for Cole Palmer, when the Chelsea star was withdrawn from England duty. Now, with the break almost over, Piers Morgan has waded in.
Palmer was recalled by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel into the England side ahead of the four-game break, after snubbing Palmer for the World Cup. A few days later, Palmer was withdrawn from the squad.
Chelsea explained the situation, highlighting Palmer’s load management and the fact that he had a small muscle injury. Palmer has played all but seven minutes in Chelsea’s first five Premier League matches.
Piers Morgan brands Cole Palmer a ‘churlish baby’ in strange rant
The media furore has died down, with England back in action – losing to Spain, but beating Czechia and Croatia. Joao Pedro also withdrew; Reece James, Marco Palestra and Moises Caicedo stayed at home.
What do you make of the criticism Cole Palmer has faced since withdrawing from the England squad?
Rio Ferdinand is still a fan!
However, Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has decided to reopen the criticism of Palmer in an astonishing rant on the Chelsea star, in which he questioned the star’s integrity and willingness to play for England.
“I think Cole Palmer is a bottle job. That’s a player to me who is massively squandering his obviously brilliant ability. He is so apparently lacking in dedication and commitment to his country,” Morgan said.
“I’m not having it. Any player who doesn’t give 100% to his country, which is clearly what Thomas Tuchel is saying about Palmer, you’ve got to just think, ‘what’s wrong with you’. Palmer has not retired.
“He’s just not putting in a shift mentally, and I find that extraordinary. He’s a churlish little baby. There is an appropriate reaction to not getting in the England squad [for the World Cup]. I want to see him play.
“There’s no evidence that Tuchel has lied to Palmer about how he is going to use him. So the comparison [with Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation] is irrelevant,” Morgan concluded, on his Sports Uncensored channel.
Morgan has completely missed the point with Palmer
This unfounded and uneducated view on Palmer must be incredibly grating for Chelsea fans. Palmer himself is said to be disappointed to have to withdraw from England duty; Chelsea made the decision.
Palmer endured a horrendous year with injury last term. Alan Shearer described his situation as “horrible”; fit enough to play, but not fit enough to play 100%. This Talking Points user summed it up recently.
Of course, Palmer could have stood his ground. But the Chelsea star has not had a break for three summers in a row – competing in the U21 Euros in 2023, Euro 2024 and the Club World Cup in 2025.
Palmer even said he couldn’t shoot, and in a recent gaming stream, he said he was playing on one leg last season. Alex Scott’s injury proves Palmer was right to miss the England games, and Morgan has it wrong.
