Chelsea elected to not allow Cole Palmer to join up with the England squad during the international break, and the recent injury woes to one of their transfer targets has justified their decision.

Palmer was selected by Thomas Tuchel for his first squad since leaving him out of his World Cup side, although the former Chelsea boss couldn’t hide his frustration at the current star when he withdrew.

Palmer was actually gutted not to represent his country, however the Blues took the opportunity to prioritise themselves after he spent the best part of the last 18 months struggling with injuries.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer decision is justified after Alex Scott injury

In his absence, a number of other England prospects have been given their chance during this break, including Alex Scott, who is near the top of the club’s shortlist when it comes to potential midfield signings.

Unfortunately, Scott is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after pushing through an already existing problem to complete his first start for his country, ruling him out of the clash at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.

Alex Scott and Lamine Camara are both exceptional talents, but who would improve Chelsea more and why?

Chelsea cannot afford to have Palmer absent for a prolonged period of time, meaning their decision has been justified to not allow him to represent England.

The former Manchester City man is back to his best during the start of the 2026/27 season, scoring four goals and assisting another two in seven games in all competitions.

Crucially, he plays a key role in the front three at Stamford Bridge which has provided so much positivity for Xabi Alonso’s side so far in this campaign.

We have already seen how taking just one of those players out of the side can have a terrible impact on the squad after Joao Pedro missed the defeat against Brentford before the break.

The Blues need to put an end to their run of three Premier League games without a win and remind everyone of their credentials as one of the most dangerous sides in the division.
