The story of Chelsea’s January transfer windows in recent seasons has been finding moves away for players, and the decision to loan out Tayo Subuloye is a very intelligent call.

Long gone are the days of Graham Potter’s time in charge where the Blues spent big fees on the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke to try and change their fortunes.

There may be an effort to sign a new midfielder after the failed quest to bring in Lamine Camara on deadline day, but otherwise the month should be used to prioritise getting their young players minutes.

Alex Scott and Lamine Camara are both exceptional talents, but who would improve Chelsea more and why?

Chelsea make intelligent January transfer window decision three months early

Subuloye is yet to make his first team debut, but is the captain of the Under 21s despite being just 18 years of age. He has also impressed when featuring for Xabi Alonso’s side during pre-season.

Even though Chelsea play three centre-backs, opportunities are going to be few and far between for the youngster this season. Maxence Lacroix, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Josh Acheampong and Jorrel Hato are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

As per the Evening Standard, the Blues have decided to loan out Subuloye in January, with clubs from England and further around Europe interested in bringing him in on a short-term deal.

Chelsea are already reaping the rewards of loaning out a number of their talented youngsters before the season got underway. Ryan Kavuma-McQueen is playing a starring role for Portsmouth in the Championship.

Reggie Walsh, Dastan Satpayev and Mamadou Sarr are amongst those playing for a new club this season, with the intention being that they will develop their skills to be able to feature regularly for the first team in the future.

Subuloye’s best chance of this happening is through a loan move too, and coming at the end of half a season captaining the Under 21s could end up being perfect timing.

There is plenty of faith in the defender at Stamford Bridge, and he is being lined up for a move which will accelerate his development towards a potential first team option for Alonso.
