Why Thomas Tuchel was unhappy with Chelsea star Morgan Rogers during England win
Morgan Rogers started and finished England’s 3-0 win over Czechia on Tuesday night, but the Chelsea star has explained why Thomas Tuchel was unhappy with him.
After a brilliant World Cup, Rogers has made an excellent start to life since his £117m record move from Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge. Rogers has had a hand in seven goals during his seven Chelsea outings.
That form has continued in an England shirt. Thankfully for Chelsea, the attacker has managed to avoid injury, scoring against Croatia and creating England’s second goal on Tuesday night, during a 3-0 win.
Morgan Rogers says Thomas Tuchel wasn’t happy with him
Rogers’ assist for Kane was a work of art. A gorgeous first-time pass over the top from Elliot Anderson was exquisite, but not as impeccable as Rogers’ volleyed low cross that gave Kane the space to score.
Speaking to ITV Sport’s Gabriel Clarke after the match, Rogers admitted that he got a few crosses wrong before laying on an assist for Kane – and former Chelsea boss Tuchel wasn’t happy with his end product.
Chelsea needed this break BADLY… but with so many players racking up minutes for their countries, did it actually help them or could it have made things worse? 🤔

Clarke asked: “You had a few goes at that cross from the right, and then you did nail it, what a move”. Rogers responded, saying Tuchel hadn’t been impressed: “I wasn’t happy with a few of them.
“The manager looked at me after one of them and didn’t look too happy. It’s something that I take pride in, so I was a bit disappointed, but for one to come off is nice. Happy to get the assist for the captain.”
Lee Dixon’s praise as Rogers’ stats prove criticism unwarranted
Rogers created more chances on the night than any other player, aside from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Rogers’ xG+xA was 0.81, second only to Kane while boasting seven touches in the final third.
Rogers was sensational, a constant threat on the night. Lee Dixon said: “We’ve just seen the two best passes of the game, one after the other. This is an absolute pearler. How do you like them Harry Kane?
“On a plate please! The vision of Rogers out wide, to put it in that position on the volley, absolutely brilliant,” Dixon declared, praising Rogers. Hopefully, this form continues in a Chelsea shirt on Saturday.
