As well as his two stunning goals, the England international provided the assist for Morgan Rogers’ goal, making it an extremely productive day for his few fantasy football owners.

Outside of the goal involvements, no player on the pitch covered more distance than Henderson, an extraordinary statistic when taking into account he is the oldest outfield player in the Chelsea squad.

The partnership of himself and Caicedo provided far more balance than from his only previous appearance, where he was paired with Valentin Barco.

The defensive security the Ecuador international brings allowed Henderson to thrive in possession, completing 52 passes and creating two chances for his teammates. He played five line-breaking passes for the deadly attacking trio too.

This does not mean he didn’t do his defensive work too. An interception and three recoveries helped him on his way to eight defensive contributions during the game, only three less than Caicedo.

The majority of supporters would not name the former Liverpool man in their starting midfield if everyone was fit and firing. Surely even Henderson himself would have accepted this when he chose to join the club.

However, his performance in his first game at Stamford Bridge rubbishes the theory that he has purely been brought in to be a presence in the dressing room.

It remains to be seen whether he has maintained the faith of his manager enough to keep his place in the starting side when they travel to Everton next weekend.
