Chelsea can thank Jose Mourinho as Morgan Rogers explains decision to join Blues over Arsenal
Chelsea fans have been delighted with what they have seen so far from Morgan Rogers since he joined the club, especially after Arsenal were pushing hard to bring him in first.
Rogers has eight goal involvements in his first seven games in all competitions as a Blue, forming a devastating attack alongside Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro.
Many expected the former Aston Villa man to make the move to Arsenal over the summer, especially with them obviously needing a new attacker to maintain their position as the best side in the country.
Chelsea needed this break BADLY… but with so many players racking up minutes for their countries, did it actually help them or could it have made things worse? 🤔

However, Rogers has admitted in an interview with SW that a key reason behind him wanting to join Chelsea was the fact they dominated proceedings in English football when he was growing up.
He said: “First and foremost, growing up, Chelsea were always one of the biggest teams in the league. They were winning Champions Leagues, winning Premier Leagues, having players, generational players at the club and players that I idolised and watched when I was growing up.
“When that opportunity presents itself, it’s hard to say no and turn down an opportunity like that to represent such a big club and to take that next step, which I felt like I was ready for.
“The price tag and all that I can’t control, I think it’s a nice thing for me, but it’s also something that I can’t get too drawn into that people are going to judge me regardless. And I do have that pressure on me to deliver because of because of it.
“And that’s my motivation. That’s my goal. That’s my aim regardless of whether the price tag was X or Y. It doesn’t change what I’m planning to do, what I’m trying to do, what I want to achieve with the club. And yeah, probably just gives me a bit more motivation to prove people wrong because I know that that means that more people would doubt it. So yeah, I’m excited.”
Chelsea’s drastic change in fortunes in the mid 2000s came as a result of hiring Jose Mourinho as manager in 2004, after he had just won the Champions League as the boss of Porto.
What followed was the Blues winning the top-flight for the first time in 50 years, becoming back-to-back Premier League champions and establishing themselves as one of the top sides in European football.
Carlo Ancelotti, Roberto di Matteo, Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel would carry on the baton of the Blues being at the top, ultimately making them an attractive destination even now where they are a decade without a Premier League title.
