It has emerged on Monday that Chelsea star Malo Gusto could be open to leaving Stamford Bridge, with the Frenchman concerned about his game time – but how much is he worth?

Gusto started five of Chelsea’s first six games in all competitions. But at Brentford, the France defender remained an unused substitute, and on Saturday, Gusto was an 88th-minute sub against Bournemouth.

It has emerged that Gusto is considering an exit. He is seeking assurances from Chelsea about his role in the side, and if his game time does not improve, then he may consider a departure in the near future.

What is a fair price for Malo Gusto? 💸

BlueCo are proving stubborn.

The report also indicates that Chelsea may reduce his asking price, having requested a whopping £75m for the ex-Lyon star. At the time, it felt like £75m for Gusto was a hugely inflated price for the right-back.

How much do Chelsea fans think Gusto is worth?

So, how much should Chelsea charge for Gusto? Well, Chelsea fans have had their say on social media in response to the reports that the defender may be sold, with Gusto falling down the pecking order.

“He’s gotta go at the right price tho”, was the reaction of another Chelsea fan. One hilariously suggested: “Man U baby, what do you say? Just £50m, you can get this monster.” Clearly, fans are happy to sell him.

With Marco Palestra and Moises Caicedo fit, Gusto has fallen down the pecking order at right-back and in central midfield. It feels that without European football, Gusto is going to struggle to get regular minutes.

Another seemed to agree that a fee of around £50m is about right: “Has gone backwards over the last season. If we are offered £50m, then I would take it.” Another said: “begging teams to offer £50M.”

How much do Chelsea need to sell Gusto for to make a profit?

Gusto was signed by Chelsea in January 2023 for a £30.7m fee. He remained at Lyon on loan until the end of the 2022-23 season, but it means Gusto was signed before the five-year player amortisation period.

It means that Gusto’s fee is split over the length of his entire Chelsea contract, until 2030. He was given a seven-and-a-half-year deal, and Gusto is now pretty much halfway through that contract in West London.

So, if Gusto was sold in the 2026 summer window, the Blues would have needed a £16.4m fee to break even on their purchase. A £14.3m fee in January would see Chelsea prevent any Financial Fair Play loss.

If and when Chelsea do sell Gusto, then unless he remains at Stamford Bridge until he leaves on a free transfer, it is expected the Blues will make a substantial profit. When he leaves remains up in the air.
