During the summer, Chelsea’s transfer strategy was largely centred on signing players with Premier League experience.

Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Jordan Henderson, Danny Welbeck and Emiliano Martinez all moved to Stamford Bridge. Four out of five of those names started in Chelsea’s 5-1 win over Bournemouth last weekend, with Henderson impressing in particular.

In 2027, Chelsea could approach the transfer market in the same way. Chelsea are desperate to sign Bournemouth’s Alex Scott in the new year and are also being linked with a Manchester City defender.

Jordan Henderson starred in Chelsea’s win over Bournemouth, but who is the club’s greatest-ever free transfer? 🤔

Chelsea keen on signing Josko Gvardiol

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that the Blues are tracking Josko Gvardiol. Chelsea have shown strong interest in Gvardiol in the past but were never able to sign the 24-year-old.

According to Phillips, he is a player who is loved by Chelsea and the club believe there could be an opportunity to sign him whether City are punished or not. City have been charged for breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations and are awaiting their sanction.

They have launched an appeal, but it looks like Chelsea could make a move for Gvardiol whether it is successful or not. The Blues’ defending has not been great this season, so the Croatian is likely to be welcomed to Stamford Bridge.

Xabi Alonso’s side showed improvement against Bournemouth, nearly keeping a clean sheet. However, in the games prior to that, they struggled defensively.

Josko Gvardiol would be a coup for Chelsea

If Chelsea can pull off the signing of Gvardiol, that would be some addition to their squad. He is easily one of the best and most versatile defenders in the Premier League.

Gvardiol can play at centre-back or left-back. The Croatia international has all the attributes of a top centre-half, yet at City, he has probably been most effective when in the left-back role.

Gvardiol has been devastating going forward. He scores goals, especially when City need one, and goes on marauding runs down the left flank, where he cannot be stopped.

His assist for Rayan Cherki’s goal in City’s 3-0 win over Liverpool last Sunday was sensational. Gvardiol has also been linked to Barcelona and Real Madrid in previous transfer windows, so if Chelsea can sign him, it would be a real coup.
