The Blues were shaky at times at the back, but the Frenchman brought some composure and leadership that were the two main reasons that supporters were so pleased to see him signed.

Even before a ball was kicked, as club captain Reece James carried out his final team talk on the pitch, Lacroix showed his leadership skills there and then by giving his own rousing speech, which was met by applause and roars from his teammates.

James has frequently been seen as a captain who leads by example, and one who would benefit from having vocal figures around him.

Lacroix is going to be one of those figures, and the way the rest of the squad listened and reacted to his words was a really strong sign for the future.

While Robert Sanchez struggled behind him and Levi Colwill didn’t have his best game, Lacroix’s calmness under pressure was a massive factor in Chelsea holding on for all three points.
