Good and bad news: Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson updates as Chelsea face Brentford
Chelsea take on Brentford on Friday night as the Blues take the short trip across West London to face Keith Andrews’ side – and updates have emerged regarding Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson.
Chelsea are desperate for midfield reinforcements ahead of the trip to Brentford this weekend, after Xabi Alonso watched his side fail to dominate newly-promoted Hull City last Saturday, drawing the game 2-2.
It’s time to talk about our midfield situation… who’s getting your vote?
Jordan Henderson is yet to make his Chelsea debut after breaking his arm during England’s celebrations against Mexico. The veteran midfielder has been in Chelsea training for the best part of a month.
Henderson and Caicedo updates as Monday training drops clues
Meanwhile, Moises Caicedo has been nursing a calf injury. Alonso attempted to bring him back against his old side Brighton during the 4-3 win at Stamford Bridge, but was forced to take him off soon after.
There had been hope that Caicedo would be fit enough to play some part of Friday night’s clash, but it appears that Alonso may have to wait. However, Alonso could have Henderson at his disposal on Friday.

The Evening Standard say that Henderson was involved, and put through his paces with the rest of the Chelsea squad on Monday. However, Caicedo was nowhere to be seen during Monday’s training session.
Obviously, Caicedo could appear with plenty of sessions ahead of Friday’s clash. But his omission from yesterday’s training suggests the Ecuador star is still some way away from being fit enough to play.
Who will start in midfield against Brentford on Friday night?
The combination of Reece James and Romeo Lavia did not work on Saturday. John Terry has reiterated that James is better at right-back, and that Alonso is making a mistake in playing James in midfield.
He has not had much of a choice in recent weeks. However, Valentin Barco’s impressive cameo against Hull could be enough to convince Alonso to give the Argentine a start when Chelsea go to Brentford.
DISCUSS: It’s time for Xabi Alonso to start Valentin Barco…
The stats simply DO NOT lie 👇
Henderson is unlikely to start even if he is fit, when Alonso picks his starting XI to face Henderson’s former side. Caicedo looks even less likely. The chances are, James will start, while Barco may get a go.
Lavia’s early-season form has dipped in the last couple of matches and perhaps, come Friday night, he will be given a rest by the manager. But there is a chance that Henderson is given a go against his old team.
