Chelsea or Liverpool? Gianluca Di Marzio has interesting news on Lamine Camara’s future
Everyone of Chelsea persuasion will now know why the Blues failed to sign Lamine Camara late on in the transfer window. But could the Blues return to sign the Monaco star in January?
Monaco star Camara was halfway through his Chelsea medical before sporting director Thiago Scuro pulled the plug on a £47m deal. He believed Folarin Balogun was going to join Everton from Monaco.
The Ligue 1 side, who sit top of the French table, needed one major sale to balance the books. They wanted to sell Balogun instead of Camara. Instead, Scuro’s position is in danger after selling neither.
The need to sell remains at Monaco as their on-pitch antics contrast entirely with the club’s finances. So, could Camara leave the Les Monegasques halfway through the season? Gianluca Di Marzio has news.
Di Marzio: Chelsea and Liverpool considering Camara move
Speaking to Rekatochklart in a long-winded interview about the futures of certain players on the market, Di Marzio was initially asked about Chelsea’s interest in Camara. He said Chelsea do remain interested.
“Everything changed at the last minute. Chelsea need a player in that position; I think they will try again in January. It is difficult to say if something will come to fruition or not. But Chelsea will come back again.”
Lamine Camara and Moises Caicedo are VERY similar midfielders…

Di Marzio, a widely renowned Italian reporter for Sky Sport Italy, was also asked about Liverpool’s interest in Camara. He explained that a move to Anfield hinges on the future of midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
“It depends on Mac Allister’s contract situation. It is possible that Liverpool will act earlier and try to bring in another player before the summer. Chelsea are coming back for Camara, and Liverpool are also there.”
Contrasting reports suggest Chelsea won’t work with Monaco
If Chelsea are to sign Camara, it looks as if they will have to do business with Scuro once again. The sporting director remains in the role for now, despite major scrutiny. Chelsea will have to park grievances.
That, and Chelsea will have to spend a lot more money than the £47m fee they agreed for Camara in the summer. The reason is two-fold: the January window is always more expensive, and Camara is shining.
The midfielder has been immense since the failed move to Chelsea. Denis Zakaria thinks the failed move has given him a new lease of life. Whether he does move to England in January remains to be seen.
