Chelsea are already compiling options ahead of the January window, and now a long-term target has just provided Chelsea – and Arsenal – with a boost, having decided he is not interested in joining Real Madrid.

Jacobo Ramon hands Chelsea and Arsenal a big boost

In the summer, Nico Paz rejoined Real Madrid before signing for Como outright. He was a Como player beforehand, but like Jacobo Ramon, Madrid still held 50% of his player rights and could buy him back.

It saw Madrid re-sign Paz at a pre-agreed price, before selling Paz outright back to Como for a club-record fee of £50m. The same situation lies before Ramon, with Madrid likely to activate the clause.

According to AS, Madrid can re-sign Ramon for as little as £7m, having initially sold 50% of the player’s rights to Como for just £2.5m. Ramon has since starred, with Fabregas describing him as “devastating”.

But the report from AS states that Ramon has no intention of playing for Madrid and wants to be with a club where he is playing regularly. The report also indicates that Arsenal and Chelsea remain interested.

Ramon was a key target for Liam Rosenior in January

Chelsea’s defence has been poor for a while now. The 3-0 loss at Brentford was the 21st Premier League game in which Chelsea have failed to keep a clean sheet, the worst it has been in Chelsea’s history.

In January, Liam Rosenior identified the problem. Chelsea compiled a three-man list of Ramon, Marcos Senesi and Jeremy Jacquet, but the latter two have joined rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Ramon remains an option, and Chelsea are clearly still pursuing his signature. The likeliest scenario is that Madrid activate their clause, knowing they can sell for a profit, but Chelsea now know Ramon’s stance.

Having come through the Madrid academy, there was a feeling Ramon might have preferred to make a go at becoming a Madrid regular. Instead, Chelsea and other interested clubs have the chance to get him.
