Xabi Alonso’s view of Estevao Willian after handing him just 23 minutes in the league

In Chelsea’s current set-up, only three attackers can start, and Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Morgan Rogers have been in undroppable form. Nevertheless, Alonso still appears to be a fan of Estevao, even though he is yet to prove it.

According to journalist Simon Phillips on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, everyone at Chelsea, including Alonso, rates Estevao “highly”. As a result, the Blues have no intention of selling the winger.

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has been discussing Estevao and still thinks the 19-year-old needs to leave Stamford Bridge, but it does not look like the Blues will be sanctioning a permanent deal any time soon.

Again, it is going to be difficult for Estevao to break into the starting XI because of Palmer and Rogers. But if Alonso switches to a 4-2-3-1, there should be room for him.

Estevao has played four games in the Premier League this season, meaning that he has actually only missed one top-flight match. However, none of his appearances were starts and he has only played 23 minutes in total.

Estevao has made a couple of starts in the Carabao Cup, but the Brazil international has not scored in that competition or the Premier League. Hopefully that changes after the international break and Estevao receives more starting opportunities.

With the form that Palmer and Rogers have been in, though, that is far from guaranteed.
