Chelsea already have one of Jarell Quansah’s idols at the club as they target defender

There are now rumours that Chelsea are also eyeing Quansah, who has really impressed for Leverkusen since joining them from Liverpool last year.

A move to Chelsea in January or next summer would see Quansah reunite with Jordan Henderson. The England duo were at Liverpool together, and Quansah thinks very highly of his former teammate after working with him.

Discussing the players he studied to improve his leadership skills, Quansah told Liverpool’s official club website in 2025: “Jordan is very vocal, has very, very high standards on and off the pitch and he drives that constantly.”

Henderson’s character is one reason why Chelsea decided to sign the midfielder from Brentford on a free transfer. Last season, their squad lacked experience and leadership, things Henderson has now brought to Stamford Bridge.

Henderson is 36 and a former Liverpool captain. He has won the Premier League, Champions League and made almost 500 appearances for Liverpool. It is no wonder that he was such a great role model for Quansah.

Any move for Quansah, Ramon or another centre-half could have ramifications for Wesley Fofana or Josh Acheampong. One may have to make way for someone to be brought in.

Many clubs are interested in Acheampong, but Chelsea do not want to sell him, making a loan move more likely if Quansah is to arrive. For now, though, it is all speculation.

The arrival of one new centre-half is unlikely to fix all of Chelsea’s defensive woes anyway. They are conceding so many goals right now that it has to be a structural issue under Alonso and not just individual errors. Hopefully there is some improvement after the international break.
