Almost 14 months ago, Chelsea played host to Bayer Leverkusen. Quansah had just completed a £35m move to the German club from Liverpool and was looking to make an impression in the friendly clash.

Goals from Estevao and Joao Pedro got the job done, but Palmer could have been left with a serious injury. Had VAR been active, or had the game been competitive, Quansah would have been shown a red.

Yet, the England defender received a yellow card in the 26th minute. Now, Chelsea are among the clubs looking to sign Quansah, with Leverkusen seemingly helpless, with the defender expected to go for £60m.

Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in signing the England ace. According to reports, Liverpool have a buyback clause for Quansah, but whether he wants to return to Anfield is unclear.

Would Quansah start for Chelsea if he signed in 2027?

Quansah’s versatility makes him a smart signing. Xabi Alonso is playing with three at the back, and Quansah has what it takes to play in all three positions. Right now, none are performing that well.

Levi Colwill is yet to show Chelsea fans the player he was before his injury, while Reece James is better at wing-back than he is as a right-sided centre-back. Wesley Fofana and Maxence Lacroix have struggled.

Quansah would certainly compete with any of those three players, but mainly, he can play in any of those three roles, and that would give Alonso proper depth in defence. Quansah would be a quality addition.
