Chelsea’s interest in Barcelona star will give fans flashbacks of Brazil icon Hulk
There was a time in the past when Chelsea were constantly linked with former Porto and Brazil star Hulk.
It was never a shock, as Hulk was one of the most high-profile forwards in football, while Chelsea had the funds to acquire a player of his calibre under Roman Abramovich. In the end, though, the Blues never went on to sign him.
To the present, and Chelsea are now linked with another player every transfer window. So, is this going to be another Hulk saga, or will they eventually land him?
You can have TWO Man City players, who are you picking and why? 👀
Imagine if Man City actually get relegated 😳
Chelsea’s constant links with Jules Kounde reminiscent of Hulk rumours
The player in question is Barcelona’s Jules Kounde! Chelsea tried to sign Kounde from Sevilla back in 2022, but the defender ended up joining Barcelona. Since then, he has still been linked to the Blues.
It was recently reported that Chelsea are once again interested in signing Kounde and that the 27-year-old is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge. Their interest is something that we have been hearing about the last few transfer windows now, but nothing has happened yet.
It is why you can see similarities between these links and the Hulk rumours all those years ago. The Hulk transfer never happened, and it feels like one for Kounde will not either after the constant speculation with no results.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will make a fresh move for Kounde in January, but it looks like they will definitely attempt to sign a midfielder, which has been a problem position for them this season. Chelsea are thought to have Lucas Da Cunha of Como on their radar as they look to replace Enzo Fernandez.
Jules Kounde could be great fit for Xabi Alonso’s system
The truth is Xabi Alonso’s back three is a bit of a mess right now. Chelsea’s defence as a whole are. They have conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season.
Alonso may have to switch to a back four, but if he is planning to persist with this current set-up, Kounde would be an ideal signing. He has the defensive ability and pace to play as the right-sided centre-back in a back three.
Wesley Fofana has not always looked convincing there and in other centre-back roles in general. His compatriot could be an upgrade on him if he is brought to Stamford Bridge next year.
