Major Alex Scott blow emerges after reports said Chelsea were leading £100m battle
On Sunday, it was reported that Chelsea were leading the battle to sign Bournemouth and England star Alex Scott. On Monday, it has been reported that the midfielder has suffered a huge injury blow.
That is football, after all. After Chelsea’s rejected £64m bid in the summer, Scott has gone to a new level. The midfielder, who made his professional debut in the eighth tier, is starring for Bournemouth this term.
So much so that Thomas Tuchel handed him his England debut against Czechia last week. On Saturday, Scott started for England for the first time, proving to be a key player in England’s 7-0 win over Croatia.
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are leading the race to sign Tottenham fan Scott. Alan Shearer said that he thinks Scott will be the Premier League’s next £100m player, despite his Bournemouth contract.
Now, Alex Scott has suffered a major injury blow
But just as Scott was developing some serious momentum and on course to earn a big-money transfer to one of England’s biggest sides – with Liverpool also linked – Scott has picked up a long-term injury.
Scott picked up an injury to his quadriceps during the 7-0 win over Croatia, and is now returning to his club – with England still having one more game to play. He is expected to miss the next couple of months.
Which former Chelsea player would you add to the current team, and why? 🤔
You can choose anyone!
While it is unlikely to affect a possible transfer, given he should be back in action by the time the January window opens, it is a massive blow for the midfielder just as he was building some serious momentum.
The biggest loser following the injury is Scott’s club Bournemouth, who will now be without their star player until December. It is likely Scott will need a few weeks to rediscover his match sharpness, too.
Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro decisions proved right by Scott injury
Chelsea, and even Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro, were criticised when it was confirmed they had withdrawn from England and Brazil’s squads for the upcoming break. Especially after both missed the World Cup.
Xabi Alonso is likely to have been the man behind the decisions, convincing both Palmer and Pedro to focus on their fitness instead of worsening it with their countries. Plenty of criticism came in for Palmer.
However, Scott’s injury proves that Alonso and Chelsea were right to withdraw Palmer and Pedro. If either player had picked up a howler of an injury – as Scott has – then the criticism would have been worse.
