Cole Palmer or Eden Hazard? Chelsea icon Willian names which player is better
Eden Hazard spent seven years at Chelsea, leaving to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 as a Blues legend after Premier League titles and plenty of other silverware.
In those seven years, Hazard played 352 times for Chelsea and had a hand in a whopping 198 goals. The Belgian scored 110 times, laying on 88 assists, winning the Premier League and the Europa League twice.
For some Chelsea fans, he is the most exciting player to have worn the blue of their beloved club. In true Hazard fashion, he left Chelsea having secured the Europa League trophy with a brace against Arsenal.
But who is better? Is Palmer as good as Hazard? Willian’s verdict…
Meanwhile, Palmer is into his fourth season at Chelsea. In that time, he has had a hand in 92 goals in 134 appearances for Chelsea. Palmer is Chelsea’s best player at the moment, according to Sergio Aguero.
Speaking to John Obi Mikel on the Obi One podcast, former Chelsea star Willian was asked which player is better – Hazard or Palmer. Having played with Hazard at Stamford Bridge, his answer is unsurprising.
Which former Chelsea player would you add to the current team, and why? 🤔
You can choose anyone!
Asked: “Do you put Cole Palmer ahead of Eden Hazard?”, to which Willian replied: “No. I like him, Cole Palmer. I think he is a top talent, very good quality. But Eden Hazard; it’s impossible,” Willian said.
“With Hazard, he’d say, ‘guys, give me the ball today’, I relax. Palmer is a great player; cannot compare him with Hazard. He is on the way; he’s already a great player. It depends on keeping that consistency.”
Cole Palmer v Eden Hazard: The stats in a Chelsea shirt
With Palmer averaging a goal or an assist every 1.5 games, and Hazard producing an involvement every 1.8 games, perhaps the obvious winner is Palmer. But Hazard did it over seven years for the London club.
Palmer has not been at Chelsea for half the amount of time Hazard spent in Chelsea blue. Hazard also has the silverware to show for his endeavours; Palmer has a Conference League Trophy and a Club World Cup.
Willian is right; Hazard is the better player because he changed games over the course of many more years than Palmer. However, Palmer is certainly on his way to eclipsing the former Real Madrid attacker.
