Chelsea are waving goodbye to one of their sporting directors, Laurence Stewart.

On Wednesday morning, it emerged that Stewart is leaving Chelsea by mutual consent. Stewart joined the Blues from AS Monaco in 2023 and helped oversee recruitment.

Sources have told The Telegraph that there has been no fallout between Stewart and Chelsea, so their relationship still appears to be intact despite the surprise exit.

However, Stewart and Chelsea’s other sporting directors have not had the best relationship with supporters. Many Blues fans blame them for the club’s failures in the transfer window, including what happened in the most recent one.

Alex Scott and Lamine Camara are both exceptional talents, but who would improve Chelsea more and why?

Chelsea sold Enzo Fernandez on deadline day without bringing in another midfielder. Chelsea were set to sign Lamine Camara from Monaco and blame the French club for pulling the plug on the deal at the very last second.

Supporters, though, feel that Chelsea should have had a replacement for Fernandez lined up long before then. It is something that they will now try to address in January.

Chelsea are keen on Alex Scott, but a deal in the winter transfer window looks extremely difficult. Whatever the case, Stewart will not be there to have a say on what happens with that or any other potential transfer.
