New face spotted in senior Chelsea training as teen’s stunning CNG form catches Xabi Alonso’s eye
Harry Hudson has got his U21 side firing. Cobham’s Next Gen, or Chelsea’s U21 side, have won four of their six games this season, and new signing Harrison Bettoni has been on fire.
Three wins from four Premier League 2 games, and a penalty-shootout win against Bristol Rovers in the EFL Trophy has seen Hudson’s side make an excellent start to the 26-27 season. Plenty are in good form.
Reggie Watson and Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli have already made their senior debuts for Chelsea, with the duo two of the five youngest players to play for Chelsea. But plenty more could get a chance under Alonso.
Harrison Bettoni in senior training ahead of Bournemouth
Aside from Watson and Nicoll-Jazuli, Chelsea have plenty of youngsters showing the required potential to make it into Alonso’s thoughts. Leo Black, Heze Grimwade, Tayo Subuloye, and plenty more are shining.
As is Harrison Bettoni. The 19-year-old joined Chelsea in the summer, having played 27 times for Wigan at senior level last term. Playing six times for the 21s, Bettoni has already scored four goals from midfield.
Alex Scott and Lamine Camara are both exceptional talents, but who would improve Chelsea more and why?
Clearly, Alonso has caught wind. While a whole host of Chelsea players remain on international duty, Bettoni was spotted in Chelsea training as the club uploaded pictures on their website this week.
Alongside Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana and Pep Chavarria, Bettoni is seen training alongside Chelsea’s best players. It would come as no surprise that at some point this season, Bettoni earns a senior Blues debut.
How much did Chelsea pay for Harrison Bettoni?
Bettoni scored four senior goals for Reggie Walsh’s Wigan last season. An impressive bout of form for a teenager who earned his move to Chelsea thanks to his “excellent” form in a Wigan shirt last season.
According to Wigan, Chelsea and The Latics agreed a ‘significant’ compensation fee. Bettoni officially joined Chelsea on a free after his Wigan deal ended, but rules state a compensation fee must be paid.
Hudson has some excellent youngsters at his disposal. But as things stand, the next-best player to win a first-team promotion after Watson and Nicoll-Jazuli could well be former Wigan wonderkid Bettoni.
