Chelsea are asking for trouble if they sign Liverpool flop next year
Chelsea need to think very carefully before making any move for one Liverpool player in 2027.
As they usually do, the Blues are going to be very busy in the transfer market next year. Chelsea are expected to buy a new midfielder, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott at the top of their list.
Chelsea looked good in the middle of the park on Saturday, largely thanks to Jordan Henderson’s performance against Scott’s Bournemouth side. But midfield has been a bit of a problem area for them this season. However, it is not the only position they could strengthen.
Florian Wirtz won’t be a success at Chelsea
According to the Daily Briefing, Chelsea are keeping an eye on Florian Wirtz‘s situation at Anfield. Rumours about Chelsea being interested in Wirtz are not a complete shock.
Things have not quite worked out for the attacking midfielder at Liverpool, so he may be contemplating a fresh start elsewhere. Wirtz has also played his best football under Xabi Alonso when they were both at Bayer Leverkusen.
The fact that Wirtz has struggled at Liverpool, though, is a reason for Chelsea not to go near him. Anyone at the club thinking about Alonso reviving him can forget about it. The Bundesliga is not the Premier League, and Chelsea have discovered that down the years. Wirtz himself would have realised that by now.

Like Wirtz, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz were two of the Bundesliga’s biggest talents before Chelsea signed them. Havertz did help the club win the Champions League and is now thriving at Arsenal, but he could not produce the kind of form he showed in Germany at Chelsea consistently. The less said about Werner the better.
Jadon Sancho is another footballer who looked like one of the world’s elite during his time in Germany but was very average at Chelsea and even worse at Manchester United.
Simply put, Bundesliga exports have struggled to successfully transition to the Premier League in recent years. Wirtz is a risk Chelsea do not need to take.
Xabi Alonso already has two perfect No.10s
Even if Wirtz was at the top of his game right now, Chelsea have two perfect attacking midfielders in Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers, who are thriving as the twin No.10s in Alonso’s 3-4-2-1 formation. That was once again clear to see on Saturday.
Rogers scored his fourth goal in the Premier League since joining Chelsea after netting against Bournemouth, while Cole Palmer managed to register an assist.
An in-form Wirtz would not be starting ahead of either of the two today. Chelsea have shown interest in Wirtz in the past, but it really is not something that they should be revisiting.
