Xabi Alonso made no effort to hide his delight after Chelsea’s 5-1 win, raving about Jordan Henderson’s impact when asked if he expected this kind of goalscoring.

Alonso made it clear that Chelsea brought Henderson in for everything, his leadership, discipline, and game control, so watching him top off a complete performance with two gorgeous goals was a bonus.

He said: “We signed him for everything. If he’s able to score two beauties like today, we are more than happy for him. Today was a very complete performance. We were in control for most of the game so I’m happy with that. I’m happy with the game and the performance.”

And that wasn’t all, as Alonso also talked up the newly-formed partnership involving Moises Caicedo and Henderson, which we may see for the forseeable future judging by his comments:

“In terms of the positioning, they help each other well. They give presence, they give stability as well. They are going to be the ones that are helping the rest of the players. As well, defensively, they give good balance. It’s fundamental we get that area strong.”

Caicedo played just over an hour for the Blues before being taken off, but it was pre-planned, so there’s no reason to worry for Chelsea fans.
