Ahead of Saturday’s huge 5-1 win over Bournemouth, Chelsea announced a new eight-year contract for star man Cole Palmer, and now the Blues are planning a new deal for another player.

Palmer isn’t the only key player to have put pen to paper in the last few weeks; Joao Pedro signed on the dotted line in August after speculation linked him with Barcelona at the start of the summer window.

Now, England star Palmer has signed a new contract after he laid on a seventh goal involvement on the weekend – already reaching half of last season’s entire amount of goals and assists in a Chelsea shirt.

Now, Chelsea are planning a new deal for Josh Acheampong

Palmer himself was linked with a move to Man United towards the end of last season, as well as some of Europe’s biggest clubs. But Julien Laurens suggested his £150m price tag was too expensive for anyone.

Chelsea are looking to reward good form for the players they believe have a long-term future at Stamford Bridge. According to Flash Scores, Josh Acheampong is next in line for a new contract after Palmer’s deal.

Chelsea have high hopes for Josh Acheampong under Xabi Alonso…

Acheampong starred for Chelsea on Saturday, and his game time is improving under Alonso. There had been murmurs that he may be tempted to leave over a lack of game time, but Alonso likes the defender.

The report states Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid have been monitoring Acheampong, alongside Bayern Munich and Dortmund. He currently has a contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2029.

Keeping Acheampong is key both on and off the pitch

It is all well and good signing some big-name, foreign players. Pedro, Moises Caicedo, Emi Martinez, Maxence Lacroix – they are all key players in this Chelsea side, but Chelsea fans cannot personally relate.

Even Morgan Rogers and Palmer, albeit English and clear fan favourites, are not Chelsea through and through. In the past, Chelsea fans have had John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole to get behind.

To be able to relate to one of their own pulling on the blue of Chelsea every Saturday. But with Josh Acheampong, Chelsea have a London-born talent who has been in the Blues academy since eight.

With Reece James and Acheampong, Chelsea fans have two more players they can feel a closeness to from the stands. They know what it means to be Chelsea more than any other player on the pitch.
