David Ornstein shares what Chelsea players are saying privately about Morgan Rogers
The biggest compliment that can be paid to Morgan Rogers for his start at Chelsea is that no one is commenting on his transfer fee. David Ornstein has shared some insight on Chelsea’s record buy.
In eight appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, Rogers has as many goal involvements. Scoring four goals in the Premier League, he has also laid on an assist, while creating three goals against Leeds United.
There is no sense that the £117m fee is weighing Rogers down, and actually, it looks like he is thriving in Xabi Alonso’s side. He’s combining well with his best friend Cole Palmer and leading Chelsea’s charge.
David Ornstein shares what Chelsea’s players think of Rogers
In front of the cameras and in interactions visible to the public eye, Rogers is always smiling and clearly enjoying his start to life in West London. He is a key player both for Chelsea and for England right now.
But behind the scenes, and off the camera, what is Rogers like? Well, David Ornstein told The Athletic’s podcast what he has heard about Rogers behind the scenes, and what Chelsea’s squad think of Rogers.
What a game! Where do you rank this new Chelsea attack as Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers shine again?
Leeds couldn’t handle them 🔥
“The way he plays and moves, the charisma is outstanding. I love the bond with Cole Palmer. I even love the little bit of angst he had with Declan Rice against Arsenal. The price might precede him for a while.
“But that’s his job to show that it was actually good value for money. And I hear that players speak about him incredibly highly. They think he is the absolute real deal. Like a joke,” Ornstein said regarding Rogers.
Rogers is an early contender for Player of the Season
Averaging a goal involvement per game is incredible, even after eight appearances. Especially considering Rogers has to deal with a lot more, a point to prove after becoming England’s most expensive player.
If he continues this level of form, Chelsea will have a good season, and if Chelsea do have a good season, then Rogers will be a contender for the Player of the Season award. It is early, but this form is incredible.
If he can have a hand in 30 Premier League goals come the end of the season, Rogers has to be in with a shout of the award. After just six matches, he already has five goals and assists to his name this season.
