Jordan Henderson was the hero for Chelsea last weekend, as the England veteran scored two sublime goals in a 5-1 win over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge – but Peter Crouch is not happy.

Henderson scored with his first Chelsea touch at Stamford Bridge, sweeping a Cole Palmer lay-off into the far corner after 66 seconds. His second touch was to find Morgan Rogers with an assist moments later.

Then, late in the day, Henderson was given permission to take a free-kick by Cole Palmer after impressing Austin MacPhee with his free-kicks in training. He curled home Chelsea’s fifth. A brace on his home debut.

Peter Crouch hammers Jordan Henderson for his behaviour

Before taking the free-kick, Palmer asked Henderson which corner flag he’d like to celebrate by. The duo then sprinted towards the corner to celebrate, both with beaming smiles on their face after the goal.

During his celebration, Henderson grabbed the badge on his chest. John Obi Mikel said Henderson is not “one of us”, but the Liverpool legend showed his new-found allegiance to Chelsea with the gesture.

It didn’t impress former Liverpool striker Crouch. Speaking on That Peter Crouch podcast, Crouch said he was delighted to see Henderson shine, but – slightly tongue-in-cheek – told him not to touch the badge.

“Did you see the free-kick he did in training? Did exactly the same in training. That’s what it’s all about, doing something in training and doing it. I love the story of Palmer saying we’ll run there when you score.

“Really pleased for Jordan. There was something about, or an element of, touching the [Chelsea] badge. I’m going to let him off now, because I know him and I like him, but maybe don’t do that again,” he said.

Can Henderson not simply be Liverpool and Chelsea?

Obviously, Henderson is a Liverpool legend and rightly so. He was the man to lift the Premier League trophy with the Reds after a 30-year wait for a top-flight title. He won the Champions League there, too.

But it has been three years since Henderson last played for Liverpool, leaving the club in 2023 to join Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. Now, he’s a Chelsea player, and Blues fans are in awe of the England midfielder.

Ahead of a return to Merseyside this weekend, Henderson is likely to be one of the first names on Xabi Alonso’s team sheet. While he is a Chelsea player, can he not also show love for his current club, as well?

The only thing on Henderson’s mind right now will be convincing his new fanbase that he is more than just a leader, bought for more than just his attitude and example. He can still offer quality on the pitch.
