Myles Lewis-Skelly would have been a bargain for Chelsea as Arsenal’s valuation emerges

According to The Telegraph, while Chelsea were indeed contacted about a possible opportunity to sign Lewis-Skelly during this transfer window, they have opted against making a move for the English youngster.

That will disappoint some Chelsea supporters, especially considering how much Lewis-Skelly could have cost. The same outlet has claimed that Arsenal’s valuation of the player is £45m, which would have made him a bargain in this crazy market.

Despite still being a teenager, Lewis-Skelly would have added more Premier League experience to Xabi Alonso’s side. In total, he has made 43 appearances in the English top flight, which is not bad for a 19-year-old.

In his career so far, Lewis-Skelly has also played in some high-profile games, including last season’s Champions League final, where Arsenal lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.

In terms of what he would have brought to the pitch, the England international is a strong and physical footballer who can play at left-back and in midfield. He is perfect for a division like the Premier League.

For £45m, Chelsea would have secured one of the bargains of the summer. That is almost half of what Mateus Fernandes cost following his move from relegated West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur.

With Pep Chavarria set to join Chelsea and Enzo Fernandez still at Stamford Bridge for now, the club have good options at left-back and in midfield. Lewis-Skelly still could have been an asset to Alonso, though, especially when you look at the fitness records of Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo.
