The trio played well in the west London derby, but Arbeloa clearly feels the goals his team conceded were avoidable.

Fulham conceded just 30 seconds into the game after trying to be too clever at the back, but Arbeloa thinks it is a good lesson that Chelsea have taught them.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the full-time whistle, the former Real Madrid boss said: “We made some mistakes we cannot make. When you play against a team like Chelsea with these top players and you concede that mistake they are going to punish you. It’s a good lesson for us.”

Chelsea also made some errors in the game, with Robert Sanchez failing to save a shot that was hit straight at him.

The 28-year-old also parried the ball straight back into the danger zone before Gonzalo Garcia scored his first goal for Fulham.

Chelsea, then, have also learned something from the game. They arguably need a new goalkeeper.

In terms of candidates to replace Sanchez, Emiliano Martinez or Diogo Costa could be perfect.

Chelsea’s xG shows they really punished Fulham

While Chelsea were very questionable at the back, they were pretty clinical going forward.

As per Sofascore, their xG was only 2.24, yet they still managed to score three goals. It is no wonder that Gary Neville and others are raving about their new three-man attack.

After the game, Neville discussed Palmer, Rogers and Pedro, stating that their performance as an attacking unit was one of the best things to come from this first round of Premier League fixtures.

If they continue to fire, Chelsea could be in for a really good season, with some already tipping them to challenge Arsenal for the title. That does seem a bit premature, though, especially with a defence that still looks quite leaky.

However, after matchday 1, Chelsea do appear to be in a good place under Xabi Alonso.
