What Frank Lampard once said about Mykhailo Mudryk’s finishing as Coventry City eye loan
Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk may not have to wait long before making his Premier League comeback amid interest from Frank Lampard’s Coventry City.
Mudryk has not played any form of football since 2024 because of a doping ban, but that has now been lifted.
Reports have now emerged claiming that Coventry are interested in signing the 25-year-old on loan.
Mykhailo Mudryk is back available for Chelsea!
Frank Lampard was impressed with Mykhailo Mudryk’s finishing after working with him at Chelsea
It is easy to forget that Mudryk is a talented attacker who possesses some ideal traits for a winger. In the past, Lampard has even commented on his finishing.
The Ukrainian is someone the Coventry boss knows well after they spent some time working together at Chelsea back in the 2022/23 season.
When Lampard was asked about Mudryk the following campaign, he said: “Pace is a huge strength and technical ability when he dribbles and his finishing. We used to train a lot and he’s a compulsive finisher, in a positive way, he’s out after training and he wants to shoot.
“He’s a very good finisher and I know we haven’t seen that but you have to come back and say that this young boy has moved into the Premier League and it’s different.”
A move to another Premier League club where he would get the chance to work under someone he already knows could be perfect for Mudryk.
Mudryk joining Strasbourg on loan would not be a bad idea either. Ligue 1 is a strong division and Chelsea would be able to keep a close eye on him given their close connection to their sister club.

Mykhailo Mudryk’s goal record at Chelsea
As Lampard mentioned, in games, we have not quite seen Mudryk prove that he is a clinical finisher. Before his ban, his record in front of goal was not the greatest.
In 73 appearances for Chelsea, Mudryk has scored just 10 goals. In the Premier League, he has only found the back of the net on five occasions.
Lampard clearly feels that the Ukraine international can finish. If he joins Coventry this summer, hopefully Super Frank can help him transfer what he does on the training ground to actual football matches.
It is interesting that Mudryk has suitors after such a long absence. People in the game clearly rate the former Shakhtar Donetsk man, who will be desperate to get his career back on track, be it at Chelsea, Coventry or somewhere else.
