Pedro Neto was heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea during the summer and attracted interest from some big clubs.

The likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool were all thought to have been interested in the winger.

According to journalist Simon Phillips on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Neto initially had a desire to leave Stamford Bridge and Chelsea were willing to sell him for £80m.

However, after conversations with Alonso, the 26-year-old opted to remain in west London, which is proving to be a great decision.

Neto is thriving under Alonso and has been a key player for him in the wing-back position. He has started all but one of Chelsea’s four Premier League games so far and recently scored in his side’s 6-3 win over Leeds United in the Carabao Cup.

While Alonso has already stated that he is going to be flexible this season, 3-4-2-1 seems to be his preferred formation. It means Neto should get plenty more opportunities in the wing-back position.

When Marco Palestra returns from injury, Neto is going to have a bit more competition for his spot. But if the Portugal international keeps on making an impact in the final third as he has been doing, there is a good chance that he remains in the team.

Neto’s dribbling, crossing and even finishing have been pretty good so far this season. Hopefully that does not change and the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man can continue to cause defences up and down the country problems.
