With less than five days remaining in the transfer window, Chelsea are having to pivot quickly and find a replacement for Enzo Fernandez. There are contrasting reports, but it looks likely he is leaving.

While Chelsea reporters on these shores continue to insist that Fernandez is not close to joining Man City as things stand, reports in Fernandez’s home country state that a deal is done, with City paying £120m.

Whether Fernandez ends up leaving or not, it is quite clear that Chelsea need to look at replacements. A contingency plan will have been put in place for a situation like this, but the deadline is next Tuesday.

TalkSPORT say Chelsea have a four-man list. But two of those have been ruled out, with Real Madrid set to keep Eduardo Camavinga until January and Bournemouth boss Marco Rose ruling out Alex Scott’s sale.

Adam Wharton and Manu Kone remain on that list, with a deal for the latter likely to be a whole lot easier – and cheaper – than a deal for Wharton. However, Chelsea have now been offered another solution.

Lamine Camara has already been linked with Chelsea

A 37-time Senegal international, Lamine Camara has sparkled in Monaco red and white over the last two seasons. According to Filipe Luis, 22-year-old Camara is already “one of the best midfielders in the world”.

The new Monaco manager will not want to lose his prized possession, but Camara has been linked with Chelsea throughout the window. Man United too, while Crystal Palace have seen a bid rejected already.

Now, Lamine Camara has been offered to Chelsea

According to Ben Jacobs, among other outlets, Camara has now been offered to Chelsea. It is unclear if Chelsea are going to act on it, and it could simply depend on whether Fernandez stays in West London.

“Monaco’s Lamine Camara has been offered to Chelsea and Liverpool as a late window opportunity. Crystal Palace had a bid turned down earlier this month,” Jacobs posted on X in the middle of the night.

The comparisons between Lamine Camara and Enzo Fernandez

Fernandez dictates the tempo from deep, receives the ball off his defenders and feeds the attackers before joining them. He scores goals, he creates them and offers a threat from set-pieces and long range.

Camara’s passing range is similar, but he lacks the goal threat of Fernandez. In saying that, he is much more athletic and provides a better defensive screen. Like Fernandez, he is superb from set-pieces.

How much would Chelsea have to spend to sign Camara?

According to French outlet Nice Matin, clubs would have to pay £51m to sign Camara. However, we are at a much later stage in the window, and selling clubs will know Chelsea are about to receive a lot of money.

Realistically, Chelsea may have to pay north of £60m if they are to sign Camara in the coming days. Again, it all depends on whether Fernandez will join Man City, and even if Camara is open to joining Chelsea.
