The last thing Chelsea need right now is a distraction. The club’s quintet of sporting directors, Xabi Alonso and Behdad Eghbali, are dealing with many transactions, both in and out.

But Kendry Paez is proving to be a nuisance, and action is required. Currently, Chelsea are dealing with the potential sale of Enzo Fernandez and replacing the World Cup winner, as well as plenty of other deals.

Emi Martinez is set to join Chelsea, while Nicolas Jackson is going the other way. Mamadou Sarr’s loan to Real Sociedad is done, while Honest Ahanor is expected to arrive from Atalanta in a £34m deal today.

A decision will then be made on Ahanor: whether he will go on loan or remain. David Fofana is closing in on a move to Servette, and there are deals to be done for Marc Guiu, Gaga Slonina and other players.

Kendry Paez spotted training with River Plate’s bomb squad

Plenty is going on at Chelsea, then. The last thing they need is to have to sort a situation the club’s hierarchy believed was sorted until June 2027. Teenager Paez has endured a difficult time at River Plate.

With five days left to go in the window, Argentine media say Paez has been training with a handful of other players not currently needed at River Plate. There is even video evidence of River’s bomb squad.

Obviously, Chelsea cannot allow this to happen to Paez. They need to recall the Ecuador international immediately and find him a new loan, but given the added nuisance involving Paez, is a loan enough?

Chelsea need to cash in on Paez and admit they got it wrong

Paez was a bit-part player at Strasbourg under Liam Rosenior before being recalled and sent to River Plate. The feeling was a return to South America might help Moises Caicedo’s international teammate.

Before Marcelo Gallardo was sacked…

It hasn’t. Just one goal in 14 appearances have seen Paez fall down the pecking order, to the extent where he is training separately. Paez has been a constant nuisance to Chelsea, even at this stage of the window.

Chelsea obviously need to take action, but finding another loan for Paez is not going to work. Perhaps selling him permanently is the answer. Mo Salah’s new side, Trabzonspor, is said to be interested in a deal.

Chelsea might make a loss, but accepting they got it wrong and cashing in saves them the frustration of having to deal with Paez down the line. Clearly, he is not the talent BlueCo thought he might be.
