Mike Penders can put an end to 35-year low during Chelsea vs Brighton

The Seagulls have been regular goalscorers against the Blues, and in fact it has been a long time since Chelsea kept a Premier League clean sheet in general.

For 17 league games in a row, the Blues have conceded, with Sanchez in goal for nearly all of these matches.

This is the longest consecutive run Chelsea have been on without a clean sheet since 1991, with them not having a run longer since 1961.

Penders has the chance to make a name for himself early into his Stamford Bridge career by putting an end to this run, putting himself into the manager’s thinking for the rest of the season.

Alonso has been bullish in his personal demands to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, despite the club originally being happy with the options they had available.

Emi Martinez signing doesn’t signal the end for Mike Penders

The addition of Martinez will originally be a blow to the Belgian, with the Argentine set to instantly become a starter in West London.

However, given his age he has to be considered more of a stop-gap option for the Blues, keeping Penders at the forefront of their thinking for the long-term future.

Chelsea are expected to part ways with a goalkeeper when Martinez signs, however it looks as if Penders will be exempt from this.

Sanchez is going to be out of Chelsea’s plans from this point onwards, and he could easily be on the move before the window comes to a close on Tuesday.
