There was plenty of brilliance going forward for Alonso’s side though, so let’s take a look at who the real winners and losers are from the 4-3 result.

Winners

Romeo Lavia

A first goal for Chelsea will always be a big moment for a player, but for Romeo Lavia his performance as a whole was absolutely dominant.

Alonso has put plenty of faith in the injury-prone midfielder, and so far he is being rewarded as he continues to star in the absence of Enzo Fernandez.

Emi Martinez

After the years of uncertainty with Robert Sanchez in goal, Chelsea fans were delighted to see Martinez step up with a commanding performance between the sticks.

He will be disappointed to concede three goals, but his shot-stopping, as well as his distribution, were a major positive for the Blues.

Morgan Rogers

He didn’t score this time around, but it was a far stronger performance from Morgan Rogers than against Fulham. He had a hand in the first three Chelsea goals.

Any fears that he wasn’t going to live up to the brilliance of the rest of the front three have quickly been put to bed.

Joao Pedro

Joao Pedro scores goals, and he has started the campaign in electric form with consecutive strikes to start the Premier League season.

An unfortunate own goal delighted his former fans in the away end, but it was the Brazilian who had the last laugh at Stamford Bridge.

Jorrel Hato

All of Jorrel Hato’s pace and power was on display with the assist for Chelsea’s third goal, with him turning the Blues from back to front in an instant.

Many believed he wouldn’t suit the left wing-back role, however he proved he has the attacking ability to play that role when required.

Moises Caicedo

After being subbed on for his first minutes of the season for Chelsea, Moises Caicedo was forced off injured just moments later.

With a huge match against Arsenal on the horizon, this is bad news for Alonso’s side, who will be using that game as a measuring stick for how far they have come under the new manager.

Zero minutes today for Estevao Willian, and the challenge of breaking into the starting side at Stamford Bridge looks incredibly difficult right now.
