Mykhailo Mudryk is back in a Chelsea shirt again after his suspension came to an end. Immediately, questions are being asked about Mudryk’s future at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old winger returns to life at Chelsea with five wingers already vying for a start. The signings of Geovany Quenda and Morgan Rogers have bolstered the list of Pedro Neto, Estevao and Jamie Gittens.

What should the future hold for Misha?

Estevao is an untouchable, Rogers has joined for a club-record fee, and Gittens has been on fire during pre-season. Neto could be a casualty with Man City eyeing a £70m move, but Chelsea are well-stocked.

So, it came as little surprise when reports suggested clubs are interested in signing Mudryk. Even Frank Lampard’s Coventry City are interested – but according to reports in France, Mudryk will join Strasbourg.

Chelsea are making a mistake sending Mudryk to Strasbourg

Foot Mercato claims Mudryk will join Strasbourg on loan this summer, a huge coup for the Ligue 1 side as BlueCo look set to use their sister club to get Mudryk back to his best. He has a contract until June 2031.

But Chelsea are making a mistake, for two reasons. The first is that any Chelsea player to go on loan to Strasbourg rarely returns a success. Mamadou Sarr, Aaron Anselmino, and David Fofana are examples.

Mike Penders, a rare success story. The second reason is that if Mudryk is to be a success at Chelsea, a loan to an English club gives him the best chance of doing that. He needs to shine under Chelsea’s noses.

A loan to a side like Coventry, where Mudryk would start regularly in the Premier League, is best. The Ukraine international needs to start games, and showing Chelsea fans what he can do suits all involved.

Mudryk has set Chelsea a deadline, with Alonso assessing

Even if Alonso is impressed by Mudryk, it would be a massive risk to rely on the £90m+ signing after such a long time out. The only realistic option is that Mudryk is sent on loan and regains his match sharpness.

Mudryk is said to have told Chelsea he wants a decision on his future by the middle of August. As things stand, Chelsea are assessing him, with Mudryk travelling to Hong Kong to join Chelsea’s pre-season tour.

But when Chelsea inevitably do decide that Mudryk needs to go on loan to get game time and the feel of the grass under his fleet-footed feet again, they would be better advised picking a Premier League team.
