Chelsea offloaded so many players in the summer: free transfers, loans, and sales. Big names, big fees, and big holes left to fill. But there’s no doubt who has made the biggest impact since leaving.

Marc Cucurella, Enzo Fernandez, Nico Jackson, and Andrey Santos all left the club – but they are just four examples of a total of 41 players who were on the books last season and have gone or been loaned out.

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Reggie Walsh and Shim Mheuka are catching the eye on loan, while Mykhailo Mudryk made his debut for Spurs on Saturday. But a £4m Chelsea sale is the best value for money.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan left Chelsea to join West Bromwich Albion

Returning to Chelsea in the summer after a stunning loan in League One with Peterborough, Morgan had a hand in 17 goals in his 39 appearances for The Posh. There were some that felt he deserved a chance.

But Morgan was one of the first players sold by Chelsea, not even given a call-up to the tour of Australia and Asia by Xabi Alonso. West Brom offered £4m to Chelsea, and they immediately accepted it.

Morgan scores West Brom winner on Saturday against Watford

On Saturday, West Brom looked to continue their brilliant start to the Championship campaign at home to Watford. The Baggies had won three of their six matches in all competitions, losing bravely twice.

A Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle and a narrow loss to Middlesbrough so far are the only blemishes on their record, with Boro among the candidates to win the title. West Brom won 1-0, and Morgan scored.

About Morgan, manager James Morrison said post-match: “He has that youthfulness and freshness and he’s a little cocky as well. Those ones will go far. He has that swagger and I quite like it.”

Morgan’s stunning West Brom form and Chelsea regret

That’s seven goals and assists now for Morgan, since leaving Chelsea for the Baggies – in just seven games. The talented attacker, who can play in most positions in the final third, has netted five himself.

He’s also laid on two assists in that time. If he keeps that up, then no doubt, he’ll be worth a whole lot more than £4m. Indeed, if he reaches the 30 goals and assists mark come next May, it could be £30m.

Back in the summer of 2024, Al Hilal star Crysencio Summerville produced 30 goals and assists in the Championship with Leeds – and West Ham signed him for £35m. Chelsea might regret that sale.
